We Rise was born of rage and a need to do something beautiful and strategic about it. There are so many ways to show up in this devastating, challenging, ripe political moment. As creatives, we craved a platform to share out the brilliance and bravery of our loved ones. We needed a space where process is just as important as product, where relationships and visions are tended with respect and care.
It is rare to be able to gather together and create with integrity and genuine inspiration. This is our greatest aspiration, to nurture a culture of game-changing creativity.
Through multimedia, digital and live productions, We Rise challenges audiences to think critically about the systems that oppress us all, and uses art to inspire active solidarity. We vision for the future with empathy and intellectual rigor. We move with ancestors and future generations in mind, knowing that it is our responsibility to be accountable to our communities. Creative collaboration and storytelling are our methods for disseminating knowledge. These offerings are intended to help us remember what colonization tries to erase and to inspire change, big and small, loud and subtle. We ride the cusp of what our ancestors have known and what remains unknown, what has been done in acts of bravery and brilliance, and what we are capable of creating.
Another world is not only possible, she's on the way and, on a quiet day, if you listen very carefully you can hear her breathe.
