Taneesh is a writer, painter, and educator of East Indian descent, based in the Bay Area. She is a social justice advocate whose first love is poetry, and uses nature to understand and dismantle systems of oppression. They write essays on education, literature, politics, and the intersection of social issues and linguistics. They received their MA from San Francisco State in linguistics. Se habla español.

    Publisher Note: A full length, hybrid collection of prose essays and poetry that outlines how one immigrant artist in the USA managed to overcome traditional and non-traditional family trauma; physical, emotional and situational; borne from the caste systems of India and the US.

  4. Conversation Analysis in Supreme Court Nominee Hearings

    This project analyzes Senate Judiciary Hearings over Supreme Court nominees using the linguistic theory Conversation Analysis. The first completed one looks at Brett Kavanaugh's hearing. Check out the link to the full text. Other analyses are in progress.

  5. Metaphors and Immigration: How Media Imagery Shapes Discourse

    This paper explores the metaphors of immigration in the US, as it is presented in the current media climate, using the linguistic theories of Conceptual Metaphor Theory and Critical Discourse Analysis. Data was gathered and analyzed from a survey with open-ended questions.

    I wrote a column for a few years with Dictionary.com called United States of Diversity. It's a sociolinguistic exploration of the minority languages and dialects of the the US. Started to try to mute or counter some of the hateful rhetoric coming from the Trump administration.
