Dorian Katz

Oakland

Dorian Katz/Poppers the Pony is an artist, cartoonist and illustrator who publishes Kid Unfriendly and other zines in addition to an unending output of drawings. Dorian has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area since the 1980s. She has over 20 years of organizing art shows and events mostly within Queer subcultures. Katz received an MFA in Studio Art from Stanford University in 2011. From 2011-2019, she was gallery director at Center for Sex & Culture (CSC), a scrappy community center in San Francisco. Besides creating exhibitions and programming, she was instrumental in placing CSC’s massive archive of pervy people’s history at stable institutions. Dorian’s art has been at community centers, universities, art book fairs, museums, cider labels and even shown in galleries. Her art and writing have been published in Bay Area Reporter, Hyperallergic, SFMOMA’s Open Space, LGBTQ comics anthologies, magazines and many books. She has been given awards, grants and been asked rude questions about her art by very fancy people.
