Regina of Warsaw is an historical novel about my maternal grandmother and my mother that begins in Warsaw in 1906 and ends in Los Angeles in 1940. The story begins a journey of two continents, five countries, two states and three generations.
The story of my grandmother and her brave journey alone and with a baby boy traveling from Warsaw, Poland Russia to the United States in 1912 is a tribute to her foresight and gumption. She tried for years to get the rest of her family, parents and seven siblings to leave when there was still time. They didn't. They didn't believe the anti-Semitism was as bad as she said and that she was overreacting.
Her journey took her to Chicago where she had three girls, a husband who abandon her and the family and her next move to Los Angeles and the girls who were taken and put into a Jewish orphanage where they lived until they were 18. The story of the orphanage, Vista Del Mar is a heartwarming tale of the Los Angeles Jewish Community taking care of these Jewish children.
