Yesterday’s henna session. The pattern on the right is inspired by Shipibo Conibo motifs which incorporate animal, plant, energetic and cosmological themes. I used a mixture of henna (lawsonia inermis) and jagua (genipa americana). These are basically the main two plants on planet earth that have the ability to stain the skin for several weeks. Henna has a reddish dye molecule and jagua has a blue dye molecule. So I’m combining a bit of East and West here. I’ll explain more about jagua in coming posts. Most everyone has already heard of henna.
