I am a spinner and I make art from the fiber I spin. I love the natural color of the wool and the texture it brings into a room.
My spinning wheel was my first large purchase at age 14. I was deeply inspired by the books Juniper and Wise Child by Monica Furlong (in many ways), one of which being wanting to learn to spin and weave. I inherited my grandmother's loom, but have never had the space to set it up and learn. Spinning is a very meditative activity — it requires a balance of speed and relaxation which is a great practice for life. It is also a lovely tactile experience which is a wonderful counter to much of modern life which lacks doing things with our hands.
