I became a mother to Cliff on August 25, 2016. He’s a wonderfully observant, kind, funny little person, and I’m so lucky I get to know him. I’m very interested in supporting working parents and developing positive models of masculinity.

Personal Statement

I became a mother to Cliff on August 25, 2016. He’s a wonderfully observant, kind, funny little person, and I’m so lucky I get to know him. My journey to motherhood was tough, and it included pregnancy complications and postpartum depression. I have compassion for all parents and their unique and complicated journeys. I’ve read that at some point, children fire you as their boss and, if they like the work you’ve done for them, will hire you on as a consultant. My goal is to become a respectful guide to my child, to allow him freedom of thought and expression while modeling principles of patience, compassion and social progress. As a mother of a son, it is mine and my partner’s job to raise a man who respects all people, who feels safe sharing his emotions, and who rejects outdated models of gender.
